Wall to wall storage

While I'm not a massive fan of the amount of exposed timber in this room, I do love the amount of storage! When you take into account the size of the little people who live here and how small their clothes are, there's enough storage in those walls for all their toys as well! And the concertina doorway to an identical sib space next door is fantastic! The cost of a custom design like this wouldn't be minimal of course, but the results look a million dollars...

Smart play in a bag

Another bit of genius to share with you today! Below are 2 simple games that I found on Pinterest. I tracked them back to their owner - here - and found a virtual treasure trove of educational activities you can make and do with your pre-schooler...
All of the games are designed to be stored in a ziplock bag keeping houses tidy and kidlets self-sufficient. I told you it was genius! Now I just need some free time to make a few....
This first one is great for colour learning. Trace around a plate and mark out however many segments you like - this one is based on 8 but you could easily add more or less segments to make the game harder or easier depending what stage your little ones are at...

And when you stumble across a good idea what do you do? Multiple applications! Same thing but number learning. .. It would also work for simple words with one missing letter and a picture - for instance, a pic of a cat and the letters "_at" on a segment with a "c" on one of your pegs...
If you like these, make sure you hop over to Walking By The Way to check out the rest of her PreSchool Bags ideas...

Cakes in jars

In my virtual culinary travels today I stumbled across a fantastic new spot to drool - well, it's new to me - Family Kitchen! A great blog with some unspeakably good ideas, like Nutella shots for starters... (clearly, that's one for mum and dad not the kidlets...). But it was these ingenious Cakes in Jars that really caught my eye. According to Brooke McLay, the creator, they will keep, refrigerated with their lid on for up to 5 days! That's enough time to post one to a dear friend (during a cold snap - not sure how well it would do sans refrigeration with Mr Postie? But still a cute idea... Perhaps a courier would be better...)
Anyway, the cakes! First up, Rainbow. Never would have picked it would you? Click here for the recipe...
Up next we have the deeeee-licious looking Red Velvet and Nutella Cake in a Jar. Oh my!
And last but not least, the decadent Pinkalicious Cupcake in a jar...
Wow Brooke! You're welcome at mine for dinner anytime... as long as you bring dessert!

Turn your iPhone into a DSLR... Yes please!

I love that there are so many clever people in this world! One of these smarties has come up with the extra brilliant idea of creating a "mount" so you can attach your SLR lens to your iPhone! Wowzer! It works for Nikon and Canon and at just under $250 for an iPhone 4 (and even less for iPhone 3 users) it's got to be a hit doesn't it? Ok, I'll admit it looks kind of bulky - but compared to lugging the actual DSLR around this wins hands down... Damn it! It was my birthday last week! If you want one - hop over here to buy...

Creative crush: Photographer Tara Donne

Just gorgeous right? These beautiful images are the work of photographer, Tara Donne. Tara shoots a lot for Martha Stewart Living and her style suits that title perfectly. I just love the languid, natural vibe she captures in every shot. Take a little look at these and then hop on over to her site here to see more of her gorgeous pictures.

Yum: "Special" update

You might remember a while ago I shared our favourite weekend breakfast recipe, "The Special", with you? Well, here's an update - I've just found something better. Fresh strawberry and cream cheese french toast sandwiches. I feel a sudden shortness of breath (and I don't think it has anything to do with my cholesterol)... This is going straight on the agenda for Sunday breakfast!

Ikea 2011/2012 sneaky peek - Part 2

I hope you loved the little peek at Ikea's new pieces...
Because today, there's more!!!!
Who ever thought there'd be a frame design at Ikea that I'd love as much as Ribba?
That oval number bottom centre reminds me of my grandmothers house...
(and while I know it isn't for sale, the bike is pretty sweet too)
Particularly loving the turned legs! I've never seen a turned leg from Ikea before! It's quite exciting!
And the move away from the traditional black/white Ikea furniture palette is very nice... That grey is stunning. We love grey...

Ahhhh, that's all I have. Sadly, now we have to wait for these lovlies to appear instore...

Ikea 2011/2012 sneaky peek - Part 1

Shhh!
Look what I've got!
Some very exciting and special pictures to show you.
They're new products from...
Ikea's 2011/2012 range!!!!!!
I'm sooooo excited to be bringing these to you -
Hold onto your hats Ikea fans - so far they've kept these under wraps...
But here they are...
Loving the distressed storage boxes - a definite move toward the vintage vibe trend.
Stunning floor lamp - not sure if that piece is actually new? It looks a lot like one that showed up in one of the qualifying rooms on The Block last week... - either way, I want one...
And the cabinet!!! I've got just the spot for that little lovely...
The new vintage inspired label frames are so femininely divine.

Here's the best part about this news....
There's more to show you tomorrow!

Bicycle love...

I'm on a quest at the moment to find myself a vintage bicycle.
One just like this would make me very happy...
...and if I could find some tyres like these to go on it...

I would surely spend my days riding around looking for mud puddles and clean cement to make my mark. ;)

6 pinks in 1 cake

Remember my friend Vanessa who made the fabulous Little Helper Tower? Well, she's been at it again... this time creating a mind-blowing 6 layer pink birthday cake for her hubby's mum's 70th birthday soiree... (the woman's a saint I tell you!)
6 shades of delicious - ready for the oven...

6 shades of delicious - perfectly baked...

Details details! How cute is the tiny bunting banner?

And just when you think the tiny bunting and cake are an effort worthy of applause - there's handmade rouched streamers and FRAN's name decorated in coordinating glitter... At this point I need to remind you that this was for her mother-in-law...!

Ohhh, and doesn't it look fantastic!?

Too clever...

Oh look! That's Ness! Isn't she lovely? I thought she deserved a starring role for this effort.
(Insert applause here)

Mr Rowan seems to be enjoying the pink deliciousness.

Sometimes a party can really take it out of you. Especially when you do it this well. Good job Ness! You have just raised the party planning bar for mum's and daughter's-in-law everywhere...
